Why can't I tell the difference between HD and DVD video when I connect my Macbook Pro to my HDTV? - how to tell if a monitor is hd

In my computer screen, I can tell a big difference between high-definition video and DVD-quality ... When I connect my MBP to my HDTV with DVI - spent my MBP 1080i, I can not tell a difference ...

You seem to know what you're doing now. Check the TV settings. What is the maximum resolution of your HDTV? Your laptop can output 1080i, but the TV makes it a little lower. I suppose if I was a TV-720, the difference is very small. The DVD resolutions up to 500 lines. It is not unusual to see a greater difference can be seen in a TV monitor that shows the much higher resolution than capable TV.
